Flashlight – A Necessity

Everyone needs to have a flashlight handy - why not make your tool of choice a Stinger Flashlight!?

What do you do when the lights in your home suddenly go off? You look for a flashlight, (also known as a Torch) and feel a tremendous sense of relief when you finally find one. The battery operated flashlight (or, one that uses an electrical charge) is precious for times when the electricity supply fails.  As soon as the electricity is restored, the flashlight goes back into the cupboard or drawer. This is the typical life of the average, household flashlight.

But, flashlights are not only used in homes; they are also used by the police, the military, miners, scuba divers, security personnel etc. In short, they are used anywhere a source of light is required.  Typically, they contain a bulb or an LED (light emitting diode) as a light source, and utilize batteries for energy. They are usually designed to be held comfortably in the hand and are mostly small in size.

LED flashlights are the relatively new innovation in the field. They have largely replaced flashlights with incandescent bulbs, as they are brighter and clearer.  LED flashlights also consume significantly less energy than incandescent bulbs, and a single LED can last hundreds of thousands of hours without being replaced.

Of all the many different types of flashlights, the most commonly found design is the compact flashlight.  This model has a tube-like body inside which the batteries are placed. The front portion is covered with transparent plastic or glass which protects the bulb or LED. It is easy to hold due to the tube-like body and can be easily carried around since it fits into a pocket quite easily. The on/off switch is most commonly placed on the rear of the handle, but can sometimes be found near the front, on the side of the bulb housing.

The design of flashlights that are manufactured for special purposes, such as those that are used by military and the police, is different from the regular flashlights that are designed for household use. These special flashlights produce a brighter beam of light than regular ones, and occasionally project light at a wide angle.  These lights also typically use a much sturdier casing, which in turn makes them heavier.

A flashlight is a great device that is used for illumination purposes outdoors and in places that don’t have a natural or other artificial light source. Many professions rely on flashlights each and every day to complete their work, but they are also an important thing to have around the house in case of an emergency.  Don’t be caught in the dark – make sure you have a flashlight handy today!
